Videos provide another big opportunity for search acquisition like youtube and Tudou in Asia. Not only do videos often appear in blended search results, but youtube is now the second largest search engine. You can now submit product videos to google product search as well, so clearly video opportunity continues to increase.

The increasing number of videos and images in search results draw the searcher’s attention away from the paid search column.

Let your potential customers tell you what they are looking for. This way, you won’t interrupt your potential audience from the task they’re focusing on in order to get their attention. Instead, what you have to offer is crucial to their current task.

Paid search vs organic search in Asia



Paid search consists of ads that advertisers can buy to display to searchers who type in particular queries. These ads are labeled “sponsored” on the search result page. These ads can be very targeted and the order in which the ads appear is based on a number of factors including the amount the advertisers is willing to pay for each click.

Organic search, on the other hand, is comprised of results that are algorithmically generated. Search engines mine the Web, extract the content, assign value and relevance to each page, and then return and rank those pages for each query.

Organic search performance
Not only do searchers click on organic results 85% of the time, an organic listing is between 2-6 times more visible than a paid one. 100% of the searchers look at the first organic result, while only 50% look at the first paid result. As the rankings go down, the gap widens: 50% of the searchers see the 7th organic listing, but only 10% of searchers see the 7th paid listing. Even if you’re looking for increased brand awareness rather than clicks, organic search will provide a greater return. 

Searchers are typing longer queries that trigger fewer paid search matches and they are interestingly recognizing the differences between organic and paid results and have growing ad blindness.

Studies showed that searchers trust organic listings more than paid ones and that organic listings more than paid ones and that organic results are precieved as most relevant.

Upto 45% of daily actions are done by habit, without conscious thought. We don’t initially read the text on the page; we look for matches in the shape of the characters in the query.

Rather than people evaluate all results on the page at once, we first evaluate a single 3-4 items in chunk and move to the next if we don’t find a match. 50% of time, searchers click on results in the first chunk. This is one reason why a number one ranking is less important than people think. If you rank top 3-4 results and have the most compelling title and descriptions, you may win the click over the sites ranking above you.

60% of searchers rely primarily on the title of the result when evaluating whether the click. Searchers don’t even evaluate the entire title – they look primarily at the left half of it. The description displayed under the title and the URL also factor into what a searcher click on. Search engines bold words in all three places that match the query, which can draw a searcher’s attention.

55% of business to business buyers said they would navigate to a site they already knew through search. You can see this trend in the top search terms, nearly all are branded. IF a brand the searcher hadn’t previously considered shows up in results, it is added to a consideration and a brand not listed may be dropped from a consideration set.

When searchers were asked if they remembered seeing brands in the search results, fewer than 30% did if the brand was only in a paid search ad, but nearly 60% did when the bran appeared on top of both paid and organic. Only appear in organic can definitely causes more brand lift.

Seeing a company listed among the top results on a search engine makes me think that the company is a top one within its field. …

Views of online video opportunity continue to increase 41% from august 2008 to august 2009.

62 % of searchers click a result on the first page of results and 90% click within the first 3 pages. Data shows that the first page rankings are even more important, as 90% of clicks within that data set were on the first page of results.
